A Bobbi StoryBobbi got her Life Master gold at our areas two recent Regionals - Beaumont in Oct 2009, and and Houston the first week of Feb 2010. Bobbi started playing duplicate bridge about 3 1/2 years ago when she retired after 25 years of teaching school. She drove regularly to Nacogdoches to play and didn't have a steady partner. She started the club in Lufkin 2 years ago and now teaches beginner and intermediate bridge. ![]() |
A Bobbi StoryLife Master Happening - a fantastic Story.Coming to Beaumont, Bobbi lacked 23 Gold Points for her Life Master. She had nearly 600 points. Having that many points makes winning gold more difficult, because you play against higher ranked players. And so she did. Advancing in the #1 Bracket Knockout, her team drew the team of Jeff Meckstroth and Eric Rodwell, who have 110,00 points between them, and are together the strongest pair in world class tournament bridge. Undaunted, her team beat them in a 24 board heads up match and she won 20 + gold points. What a fantastic performance, with an unbelievable memory. In January 2010, Bobbi now lacking 2.66 gold paired up with Jimmie Lou Conner of Nacogdoches to play in the Houston Lone Star Regional. She and Jimmie Lou played their first game Thursday in a double session Statified Pairs Game. In the first session, they were first in B and 4th overall which gave them 2.88 gold! First game, Life Master done! They were so excited. On Friday, they played again and placed 2nd in B (1+ red) but then had super evening game and got 6.47 more gold! Life Master accomplished - in fantastic fairy tale fashion. Way more than well done - congrats Bobbi. Another highlight was placing 1st in the District 16 (Texas and Mexico) ACBL International Fund Game National competition with Jack Evans. They had a 69+% game - best in District 16. Bobbi also won the ACBL Unit 201 Mini-McKenney award in 2009 with 163 Master points by 2+ points over Jack Evans in the 300-500 point group. Bobbi is now a Bronze Life Master. Look out Silver - she's a coming! Pix: (Left) Bobbi Robinson and Jimmie Lou Conner |
