Unit 201 -
Life Master Party for Dave Becker
March 31, 2019

Thanks to Linda Briggs for taking many of the pictures and for saving the day by
"Photoshopping" the photos that were missed!

Honoree Dave Becker
Dave had played a little bridge before arriving the Southeast Texas area in about 2010.  He played as much as his schedule would allow at the Beaumont Bridge Studio, first with Betty Poindexter and the "Island Girls" and later with Zach Townley-Smith.  None of his partners were ever surprised with that a bid he made in spite of the challenges sometimes presented!

Dave served as a U201 board member for several years and served as President for one year.

When Dave relocated to the Galveston area, he retained his membership at the Beaumont Bridge Studio and returned to play when possible; however, he was concurrently making friends in the Houston-Clear Lake clubs.  Seventeen bridge players from there arrived via van and cars to help celebrate Dave's accomplishments.

Dave earned his Life Master at the Lone Star Regional in 2018, but his work schedule complicated scheduling his Life Master Party.  The resulting party was great fun for all.  In addition to the snacking throughout the game, the "ice cream social" was a big hit.  Dave had selected an "April Fool" theme, so we fittingly celebrated Dave and his twisted humor!

Congratulations, Dave!  We hope to see you more often in Beaumont in the future.

Hosts and Hostesses

Dave's Houston Area Family
Dave was honored by the presence of 17 of his supporters from the Houston-Clear Lake area.
The Program
Bob Townley-Smith emceed the program; John Smalley gave Dave a car (?) as thanks for negotiating for so many of us when car shopping; and Val Townley-Smith presented Dave with a gift certification to Papadeaux's.
Carolyn Worsham shared a few "Davisms" from early morning walks on Pleasure Island.  Dave opened his gag gifts - a replica of a '55 Chevy from John Smalley and a car cleaning kit from the Beaumont Bridge Studio (which happened to be a door prize donated by Dave several years ago!)
  The Decorations
The decorations provided by Val and Bob Townley-Smith were festive and fun.
