Unit 201 -
Honoring Mary Jane Garth as
A Julie Rogers Gift of Life Program "Angel Among Us"
and Texas Star Award Winner

Mary Jane Garth

The Beaumont Bridge Studio honored Mary Jane with a $2,500 Leap of Faith Sponsorship donation to the Julie Rogers Gift of Life Program in Mary Jane's name.  This sponsorship helps further Gift of Life initiatives that provide critical information on breast, ovarian, and other gynecological cancers, as well as lifesaving screenings for thousands of medically underserved women residing throughout seven Southeast Texas counties.

Unit 201 also honored Mary Jane Garth with the 2015 Texas Star Award. Mary Jane has been an enthusiastic member of the Beaumont Bridge Studio for 9 years. Her most admirable qualities are her friendliness, generosity and service to Unit 201 and to the Southeast Texas community. Not only has Mary Jane donated thousands of dollars to BBS tournaments, events, and to the facilities, she cheerfully welcomes all newcomers.

Mary Jane opens her beautiful home to the 200+ members for her Christmas party where over 200 artwork pieces and collections make the event a “must go” for all members. New bridge players especially enjoy the social contact with the experienced players. The party atmosphere serves to bring members together; therefore motivating all to play more bridge.
Mary Jane is known for her philanthropy, supporting multiple worthy causes, including Lamar University and the Gift of Life program in which she is an “Angel Among Us” for her devotion and donations to breast and ovarian cancer survivors. She has been honored and recognized for her generosity and service by many organizations in the community.

Mary Jane began social bridge before moving to Colorado where she was introduced to duplicate bridge. When she moved back to Beaumont 9 years ago with only 37 points, she quickly advanced to Life Master. When Beaumont Bridge Studio members wanted to honor her service and donations, her daughter requested we give to the “Gift of Life.” She knew that Mary Jane would much rather have us donate to others rather than give her mother something personal. Mary Jane exemplifies selflessness and generosity, and we members of the BBS feel really lucky to know her.

Board members Carolyn Worsham, Dolores Belton, Liz Mackenzie, and Linda Briggs presented Mary Jane with a plaque "for her many contributions to the Beaumont Bridge Studio." Harriet Garth joined board members and Mary Jane for a photo op.
"Mary Jane is one of 12 extraordinary women, Angels Among Us, who are being recognized for their outstanding efforts and impact in the region.  These champions for the organization's mission are dedicated Gift of Life board members and community professionals who are voices of compassion and support for breast and ovarian cancer survivors, as well as women everywhere.  Angels will be on parade throughout the month of October as goodwill ambassadors for the cause."

Mary Jane hosted a delightful lunch for her guests.
